Farm Girl Friday -7 February 2014

farm-girl-friday
For Farm Girl Friday this week we took the Farmer for some family fun.

We took Daddy sledding at the local hill.  They have stairs built into the hill, much easier than sledding on our other farm (giant hill much walking).  Ella's already been up and come down in this picture.  Some how she turned and ended up on the sidewalk.  She's loving the saucer that Uncle Dennis gave her for Christmas.

Daddy of course had to head down the steeper side.  Don't worry, the hill curved them off (and gave them air time) way before the trees.  Momma went down a few times but somehow there aren't any pictures -ha ha.  It was nice to finally get out and enjoy a winter day (it was only -5C).  We've been cooped up in the house with all this bitter cold.

And of course, what's a Farmer to do when he thinks the regular wooden toboggan doesn't go fast enough??

Make Ella a new toboggan out of some really slippery stuff he has in the barn!

It's heavy as all get out, but boy did Ella come flying down Daisy Mt.  Though Daddy needs to flatten the top a bit so Ella can have a bit of a 'preparation platform', she went sliding down the back side of the 'mountain' a couple of times.

And here is one of the good things about Ella being 8...

That's right, no more car seat or booster seat!  Ella gets to ride around just like the rest of us now.  Boy, sure makes getting in and out of the car easier and quicker.  Hopefully her legs won't hurt so much on long trips since they don't dangle any more.  And why don't they dangle?  Because Ella grew 3 3/8 inches (8.5 cm) last year.  That puts her at 51.5 inches tall.  I just looked up an average height chart and that makes her the size of a 10 year old!!  Considering I'm only 60 inches (5ft) on a good day, I think I'm going to be the shortest in the family really soon.
