Farm Girl Friday -4 July 2014

farm-girl-friday

The Farmer and the Farm Girl did a bit of a crop tour on the rented lands.  We headed up to the Dennison farm.  It's not unusual to drive by these fields and see 20-40 turkey.  We were worried about what we would find.  Here's what's in the soybean field:

Yeah, not only was there 15 or so turkey, but a deer too!  She had almost no fear of us.  Were were half way across the field before she decided to retreat.

As it turns out, we didn't have to worry about the turkey.  They aren't hurting the soybeans at all.  They are actually being helpful.  The turkey are eating up all the kernels of corn leftover from last year.  We don't need 'volunteer' corn in the soybeans.  Bambi on the other hand...

And this fellow, he really needs to find another home too.  Colin got within 5 ft before he decided to hop away.

On the Faught field Colin is VERY happy with corn crop.  This little field was in hay for many years and that makes the corn look so great.  Almost blue green.

A bit of rainbow over our neighbour's soybean field.
And at home I found this:

One of my favourite roses survived after all and is blooming.  This one always reminds me of my Grandma.  She has a number of rosebushes this colour.
