Ella the Ballerina

Ella loved wearing her new tutu to dance class.  I think I've started a revolution though.  When the other mothers found out how little it cost, they complained to the dance teacher about the price we had to pay for their recital outfits.  I agree.  How cute would Maddie and the 2 Ella's look in matching tutus?  They're 3&4, do they really need expensive, cateloge costumes???  But Miss Christie Anne said they were already ordered and there was nothing we could do.

Ella is so flexable.  At one point in the warm up, she had her legs straight out to the side!  I don't think my hips have ever moved in that direction.  I used to be flexible (in my younger, thinner days) but she's just crazy flexible  :)

I'm not sure how they are going to look at the recital.  I think one of the girls are going to have to be on stage with them.  Maddie is very shy and my Ella has a hard time remembering what she's supposed to be doing.  I'm not sure what will happen if they are just put out on stage.

I'm not sure why dance schools put the real little ones in the recitals either- at the previous ballet school, the teachers went on with the little ones, which helped a lot, the school had leo's for the older girls, the little ones just wore their class leo's (the light blue). At our new dance school (with all kinds of dance not just ballet) they do a traditional recital with all the bells and whistles. Costumes $55 a piece! We just forked over a huge wad for our girls, talk about spoiled! And basically they'll wear them once.

If I understand the newsletter correctly, the little people are only doing the Saturday matinee. Which is good. I'm interested to see what these costumes will look like. They cost $83!!!!!! For size 4!!!!! Luckily they had a fund raising option so it only cost me $35 (thanks to Auntie B and Uncle Stefan's big order). I'll be glad when she's old enough for highland. I'll make her a good kilt, white blouse and velvet vest -then we'll be set until she outgrows it or get's into the older dances (I can make most of those too).

We don't have a fund raising option, I'm glad you didn't have to fork over that much. I wouldn't be able to make a costume to match the other girls, I wish that were an option. At the old ballet school, they had there own collection of costumes for Nutcracker, Giselle, Swan Lake etc. It was a lot to pay out, I'm just so greatful that I was able to plan for it this year, so it wasn't a problem at all (miracle, yes!) We could always just have the girls do one class each or even none, but that seems to defeat the purpose. It was so much easier when they were little like Ella. Oh, on that flexibility thing, that is a really great gene to have, many girls struggle with it!
