Busy Daddy

Amish Harvest

Ok, not exactly what Daddy is spending the day doing, but I couldn't find a picture of farmers combining soy beans :) This is such a crazy busy time of year. There seems to be so much work in the barn. Soy beans and corn to get combined, though most of the corn will stay in the fields this year because it is so wet. Colin is only combining corn as needed for the pigs. On top of it all Colin is trying to work 2 days a week at the abattoir's. I worry he's going to become exhausted.

This didn't get posted Thursday (the day it happened) because of all the craziness. Colin didn't get in for breakfast until 10, then left and got an early start combining (but no lunch), but on his own because Dad was in Renfrew. Around 11 I get a phone call from my Mom, she's locked herself out of her car at the hospital (visiting the lady she takes care of). So around 12:30 Ella and I head up to Pembroke to rescue Grandma. Everything's fine until we pull out of the parking lot. Our car died in the middle of the intersection. Luckily the one road is closed for construction. I get the car to the side of the road before the power steering goes. Now what! Grandma happened along behind us, so she and Ella went to the restaurant for lunch and I tried to track down someone at home. Colin's folks were home by now, so Dad went up to talk to Colin (in the field remember). Turns out the Folks have CAA and since I was driving their old car, CAA came and towed the car home. I had to stand out in front of the hospital for an hour waiting for the tow truck -burr!

Colin is still not sure what happened with the car. A few ideas are the distributor blocks?, fuel pump (my idea) or intake manifold. Any way, sounds expensive. Luckily, Grandma's friend can't drive his car for a couple months and has loaned it to us. What great news! It's so much easier with two vehicles, especially since we need the truck for towing the trailer.

Like I said to Colin, at least the car blew up in town, during the day, with no rain -instead of tonight at 10pm on the lonely dark highway I drive home from Knit Night! God really does watch over us.

Oh my gosh, I know just how you feel! The same thing happened to my old car when I tried to start it after getting groceries Wednesday. What an awful feeling, when you turn the key and nothing happens!! After repeated tries, I finally got it running long enough to make it the mile or so home. Hubby checked it when he got in from work and said the battery was 4 years old; he thought it was time to replace it. It has been starting OK since, but being that is has been acting up a lot lately, I think it's time to start looking for a new used car for me.
