Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends! We are having such a beautiful day today. We had frost this morning (-3C), but bright and sunny. Colin is back out in the barn today and delivering piggies to the local butcher. I've got a kitchen to get put back into shape. Mom and MIL washed all the dishes last night, so I just have to put it all away.
This is my kitchen, pre-supper. I'm standing in front of my stove, so you can get an idea of how small the kitchen is. What you can't see are the two main doors. On the left, at the end of the counter is the main 'back' door. To the right (in front of the card table chair) is the door to the living room. Belinda and Stefan couldn't come up, so there was only 10 for supper. Feels small after all the years of 20 at my Grandma's.
I know this picture looks a little odd. But I thought I'd show the remains of our 12lb turkey :) If we hadn't had such a hard year on barn cats, all this would be gone by morning. It's amazing how they just devour leftovers.If you recall a few months ago, I started making my own vanilla. Well here it is, ready to use. I've used it in a couple recipes, but nothing where you can really tell. I'll have to make Colin a pound cake soon so I can see if it really makes a difference. If not, it will still be good to know what's in the vanilla and to know it's not fake.
One final picture. Here's Ella, Lucy, Lilly, Jane and Baby watching one of Ella's 'Winnie the Pooh' movies or it could be 'Toopy and Binoo' -those seem to be the movies of choice these days. Ella was being such a good girl, staying out of the way of the Thanksgiving preparations and helping when she could.

Happy Thanksgiving to you! Let's see... a 12lb turkey, 10 folks...hmmm...you all ate well! Have a great week, hope your Dr. appt goes well.
PS - it's sooo cold here today, just over freezing this AM, I read somewhere that the air mass will be heading your way by the end of the week, giving it more time to chill! We are praying for more wood. It would be really great if the landlord put in a pellet/woodstove in the kitchen, there is a corner that it would work well in, so we praying about that too - that or a new efficient gas furnace, in the meantime we wait.
Summer sure seems a distant memory, this is the 2nd year in a row we've experienced cooler than usual weather this early in the Autumn.
Thanks, we had a good day. Actually, the turkey was a little small (they say 1.5/person) but the kids are still so small they don't eat much. I had lots to send home with my SIL and some for us.
We were cold this morning too. The first real frost. Have a look at a grain stove. Wood pellets get scarce around here sometimes, whereas you can always find corn (at a feed mill-I know you're in town, but we had them in Bowmanville). Grain stoves are zero clearance, meaning you put the pipe straight out the wall -no chimney needed. They aren't as dangerous as a wood stove either, the "fuel" section is separate from where the fire is -no opening the door to toss in more wood.
