Arrrrgh!

I was going to finish my post on Why I Cover, but I am too angry. There were some comments made by some of the co-op people regarding our pigs being in a barn. I'm much too angry to make much sense :[

I'll just share a picture of Ella on her bike. Last summer I thought she's never get it figured out. This year there is no stopping her.

Sometimes, you have to be a "duck" and let the comments roll off like water. I can relate though, as I've spent the afternoon with my Mom, who is pretty judgemental (she loves seeing the children anytime, but has her thoughts about conservative Christian homeschool and training) - I didn't wear my covering, however, there is a great (expensive) fabric store near her home and I bought some fabric for new coverings, also I bought a little double sided pre-quilted yardage to make a camera strap and a little bag to hold personal items inside my purse.

PS - That is great that Ella is riding like crazy, I remember at the children's 3 yr old check ups that was a skill they needed to master. You can check that one off the list!! All I can say is put on your running shoes if you plan to catch her!!

Actually, this was one of those times when I just had to respond. We're tired of all the off-hand comments on how pigs are raised. I figured it was time to do some educating. I needed to point out a few "facts" that were really facts and not just things "we've been told". People forget that barn raising pigs is the main reason that pork no longer has trichinosis and can be enjoyed "medium" instead of "shoeleather" :) It's just a little frustrating. But everything is ok now. I've had a good email heart-to-heart with the person involved and have worked things out. She's not from a farm and is very "green/hippie" and so has a lot of pre-conceived notions but is VERY willing to learn.

Well I am glad that it is dealt with, my pig raising skills are zilch- as a city/suburban girl! We do have quite a few of the green/hippie types in this region. As one of my "thankful for..." things when I pray I include farmers, without you farmers we city folk would be a sad hungry group!
